The history...
It is perhaps a little ironic that the firm was founded as the result of a serious injury. On 12th December 1880 Elliot Square, a solicitor was standing on Plymouth roadside when he was struck in the eye by the shaft of a cab attached to a runaway horse. Tragically his injury was fatal. At the time he had a young articled clerk, John Bond who was hoping to qualify the following year. The difficulty was resolved by the local registrar creating a new firm in 1881 under the name Square Bridgeman and Bond. J Bond went on to be elected to the Council of Plymouth and presided as Mayor for three separate terms.
Percy Trevarthian Pearce joined JT Bond in 1885. He was dubbed 'Percy the Pleader' and was an advocate of high standing. He was involved in some high profile cases in the 1890's and became widely known for his close involvement in moves which enabled service personnel to be legally represented at Courts Martial.
These two formidable local figures went on to achieve many great things. Since these days the firm has grown considerably and is now a major national legal force. But one thing has always remained consistent. The professionalism and high quality work of the firm and its commitment to its clients and its staff has never changed.
