Car crash leaves witness traumatised
A father who witnessed the aftermath of his son and daughters horrific car crash was left with psychological injuries.
When Douglas received a phone call from his son to say that both he and his sister had been in a car accident, his instinct was to go to their aid.
As he arrived at the scene of the crash nothing could have prepared him for what he witnessed. His son had been taken out of the car and sat dazed on the bank at the side of the road. His daughter was trapped behind the steering wheel of her car. Although shocked by the scene Douglas put on a brave face for his children and tried to comfort them the best he could.
His daughter had suffered life threatening multiple fractures and was flown by air ambulance to hospitalwhere she remained for over 3 months. Although now home she has still not fully recovered.
Douglas found coping very difficult. He had horrendous nightmares and flashbacks. He felt anger towards the person who caused the accident and guilt that he could not prevent his children from being injured.
Eventually he visited his GP who confirmed that he was suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The GP suggested that he sought counselling but Douglas felt that he had to remain strong for his family and that counselling would be a sign of weakness.
He sought legal help from solicitors but was unhappy with the service they provided. He sought a second opinion from the specialist PTSD lawyers at Bond Pearce.
Quickly investigating Douglas' claim, they found a medical expert to prepare a detailed report highlighting the extent of his psychological injuries. It was not long before they settled the claim securing in excess of £4500 for Douglas.
